  The foundational DC welding cert. Governs structural steel welding on DC buildings — columns, beams, support structures, and primary frames. Required for all structural steel welding on DC construction sites. Tests typically run through employer-qualified WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) and cover specific positions (1G through 4G), processes (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW), and base metals.   AWS D1.6 — Stainless Steel Welding Code

  American Welding Society · Per employer · Required for chilled water piping

  Mandatory for all stainless pipe welding on DC chilled water loops, cooling tower piping, and liquid cooling infrastructure. D1.6 is more technically demanding than D1.1 — requires specific stainless filler metals (ER308L, ER316L), tight interpass temperature control (max 350°F for 300-series), and post-weld passivation to prevent corrosion.   TIG/GTAW Certification — 5G/6G Pipe Positions

  For chilled water loop pipe work (ASME B31.3 process piping), 6G pipe certification is the gold standard — it covers all pipe positions and is required for major DC pipe projects. 5G (fixed position) cert is the minimum for most DC chilled water scopes.   ASNT SNT-TC-1A / NAS 410 · Level II $65–$85/hr · Required on DC pressure systems

  All DC pressure piping (chilled water, condensate, cooling tower) requires NDT inspection to ASME B31.3 standards. QC leads with NDT Level II credentials (visual, ultrasonic, magnetic particle) are in demand on DC sites.
